The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center is a museum in downtown Mobile that houses multiple galleries with permanent exhibits on health and science topics. The spaces are filled with interactive displays and demonstration stations where visitors can conduct their own experiments.

The museum grew out of an initiative by the Junior League of Mobile in 1976, and a building was constructed and opened in 1983. This project was an important step in bringing science education and public learning more prominently to the city.

The center works closely with local schools and offers programs that introduce children to science through hands-on activities and group learning. You will often see school groups exploring the exhibits together and working at the interactive stations.

The Exploreum sits on Government Street between Royal and Water streets in downtown Mobile, so it can be combined with a walk through the historic district. The building is designed for people of all ages. Allow a couple of hours to move through Hands On Hall, the Wharf of Wonder and Curiosity Factory, plus a Digital Dome film.

The J.L. Bedsole IMAX Dome Theater opened with the new Government Street building in 1998, when its first film was "Everest". It remains the only domed IMAX theater on the Gulf Coast. Nearby, the Ciba Lab lets visitors join science demonstrations or watch from amphitheater-style seating.
