Orange Beach is a coastal city along the Gulf of Mexico in Baldwin County, Alabama. The beaches stretch along the shoreline and are backed by low-rise homes, vacation hotels, and restaurants scattered in several loose clusters.
A handful of fishermen settled here beginning in the mid-1860s and formed a small settlement. Official city status came on August 1, 1984, after the community had grown slowly for more than a century.
The name refers to citrus groves that once grew in the area before tourism took over. Today, around 8,000 people live here year-round, though the population swells many times over during summer months.
Visitors arriving by car will find public parking near the main beaches, though spaces fill quickly during summer months. Residents with a local address can apply for special parking permits valid throughout the year.
The Sportsplex on the edge of town offers multiple fields for soccer, baseball, and softball, hosting regional tournaments throughout the year. Teams from neighboring states travel here to compete in events that often run several games at once on weekends.
