Opal Beach

Opal Beach is a public beach within the Gulf Islands National Seashore, featuring wide sandy shores that border the Gulf of Mexico. The beach offers restrooms, showers, drinking water stations, and paved walkways for easy visitor access.

The national seashore was established in the 1970s to protect the Gulf coast from development. This protected status allowed the beach and its surroundings to remain in their natural state.

The beach is well equipped with parking for cars and RVs, as well as bicycle racks for visitors. It is best to arrive early during peak seasons, as parking spots fill up quickly.

The area maintains minimal development, allowing the coastal landscape to remain largely undisturbed. This deliberate restraint enables rare plants and wildlife to flourish without interference.
