The water tower features a beach ball design and stands near the Gulfside Pavilion at Casino Beach, serving as a reference point for visitors.
Built in 2005, the structure was transferred from Emerald Coast Utilities Authority to The Island Authority in 2007 for a symbolic price of one dollar.
Despite no longer storing water, the community voted to maintain this structure as a landmark, recognizing its importance to the local identity.
The tower occupies twelve parking spaces near Casino Beach and requires between thirteen and fourteen thousand dollars annually for maintenance operations.
A second identical beach ball water tower existed on the eastern part of the island until September 2007, when authorities chose to dismantle it.
