Cloverdale Historic District is a neighborhood in Montgomery, Alabama, containing about 463 buildings mostly from the mid and late 1800s. The architecture shows Revival and Victorian styles spread across tree-lined streets between Norman Bridge and Cloverdale Roads.
The area was originally purchased in 1817 by William Graham and called Graham's Woods. The name changed to Cloverdale in 1892, named after the clover plants that grew abundantly in the area.
The neighborhood's buildings show different architectural styles that shaped Montgomery over time. Walking through, you can see how people's preferences for design evolved from the 1800s onward.
The neighborhood stretches between Norman Bridge and Cloverdale Roads, with shopping areas at Five Points and Cloverdale Village. You can walk through easily and explore several blocks at your own pace.
Writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda lived in this neighborhood during the 1920s. Years later, the streets were used as a filming location for Tim Burton's film 'Big Fish' in 2003.
