Guntersville, County seat in Marshall County, Alabama, United States.
Guntersville is a county seat in Marshall County, Alabama, located where the Tennessee River meets Lake Guntersville at its southern end. The city spreads across land and water, with multiple shores and beaches providing access to the lake for swimming, boating, and fishing.
John Gunter established the settlement in 1785 on the site of a Cherokee trading post. The community grew and became known as Gunter's Landing, eventually becoming an incorporated town.
The city hosts fishing tournaments and outdoor festivals throughout the year that draw people together for recreation and celebration. These events at the lake and parks reflect how the community values water-based leisure and gathering in natural spaces.
The lake has several public access areas where visitors can enter the water for various activities. Spring and fall offer pleasant conditions for outdoor recreation, while summer can be warm and busy with seasonal crowds.
Ricky Nelson performed his final concert in this city the night before a plane crash that ended his life. This poignant moment connects the place to a significant chapter in American music.
