Gourie Cave

Gourie Cave is a limestone cave system in Manchester Parish with multiple interconnected sections extending deep underground. The network includes distinct areas labeled Gourie II and III, each with its own passages and formations.

The Jamaican Caving Club conducted the first documented exploration in 1972, discovering multiple hidden sections within the system. This early investigation established the foundation for understanding this underground network.

The cave contains traces of past human activity visible in old metal objects left behind in its passages. These artifacts suggest the site held importance for people long before modern exploration began.

Sections of the path are wet and slippery with water that can reach knee depth, so sturdy footwear and careful footing are needed. Some passages are quite narrow, requiring you to move slowly and watch for low ceilings and obstacles.

The entrance sits at about 890 meters elevation, giving the location a cooler environment and special setting. Inside, stalactites hang from the ceiling and rimstone pools collect water, creating small natural basins.
