Appleton Estate Rum Tour, Rum distillery and sugarcane plantation in Nassau Valley, Jamaica

Appleton Estate is a rum distillery and sugarcane plantation in Nassau Valley with copper pot stills for production, aging houses filled with oak barrels, and extensive cane fields throughout the grounds. The facility shows the full production process from the fields through to barrel aging.

The estate was founded in 1749 and became a center of Jamaica's rum production with traditional distillation methods. These craft techniques were passed down through generations of master blenders.

The estate shows Jamaica's craft traditions through demonstrations of sugarcane cutting, juice extraction, and fermentation that continue to shape local rum making today. Visitors can see how these techniques are woven into the daily work of production.

The estate is accessible via the main road through Nassau Valley and offers guided tours through all production areas. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the tour covers field paths and passes through various buildings.

Joy Spence was the first woman to become a master blender in the spirits industry and created special tasting experiences. Her work shaped how visitors understand the flavor profiles of the differently aged spirits produced here.
