Mayabeque Province

Mayabeque Province is an administrative region in eastern Cuba covering around 3,732 square kilometers of diverse landscapes. The territory includes coastal zones, farmland, and rural communities with San José de las Lajas as its administrative center.

The province was established in 2011 through a division of the former La Habana Province. This administrative reorganization came about to decentralize government services and strengthen local governance across eastern regions.

Local communities keep Cuban traditions alive through regular festivals featuring live music, dance celebrations, and homemade cooking. You can experience these lively gatherings in smaller towns and villages throughout the region.

December through April offers ideal weather for beach visits, exploring rural farmland, and outdoor activities. Roads connect the different towns and villages reasonably well, making it straightforward to move between coastal and inland areas.

A historic electric railway system runs through the province, connecting different municipalities with trains dating back to the early 1900s. This transportation network offers travelers a distinctive way to journey through rural Cuban landscapes.
