San Justo Department, Córdoba

San Justo Department spans 13,677 square kilometers in eastern Córdoba Province, with San Francisco serving as its administrative capital at 108 meters elevation.

The department was formally established on December 1, 1859, through a decree from Córdoba governor Mariano Fragueiro, separating from the Río Segundo department.

The department maintains six administrative regions called pedanías, including Arroyito, Concepción, Juárez Celman, Libertad, Sacanta, and San Francisco, each with distinct local traditions.

San Justo Department contains 38 local governments divided into 30 municipalities and 8 communes, with a combined population of approximately 230,335 residents.

Mar Chiquita, the largest saline lake in Argentina, forms part of San Justo Department's natural boundary, creating a distinctive geographical feature.
