Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno is a public university in the Santa Cruz department with campuses across the region. Over 100,000 students attend its 18 faculties and choose from around 60 degree programs.
Hilarión Daza established the institution in 1880 during a period when higher education in Bolivia was still developing. The government granted it autonomy in 1931 so it could develop its own curricula.
