Villa-Lobos State Park, Urban recreational park in São Paulo, Brazil
Villa-Lobos State Park is a green area along the Pinheiros River with walking paths, sports courts, and open spaces covering more than 700,000 square meters. The grounds stretch along the riverbank and offer several sections for different outdoor activities.
The park opened in the late 1980s after transforming a former waste disposal site through major cleanup efforts. Reclaiming the land required removing hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of debris before opening in 1989.
The park honors Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos through its design, which includes references to music in different sections of the grounds. Visitors come here to jog, cycle, and play team sports on the public courts near the riverbank.
The park receives several thousand visitors on weekdays and considerably more on public holidays. Bike paths, outdoor fitness equipment, and sports courts are available to everyone and can be accessed through multiple entrances.
An elevated tree canopy walkway more than 100 meters (330 feet) long takes visitors through the upper levels of the grounds. From this platform, you see tens of thousands of trees from an unusual perspective above the treetops.
