Ponte do Jaguaré, Road bridge in Jaguaré district, São Paulo, Brazil
Ponte do Jaguaré is a road bridge crossing the Pinheiros River with two parallel structures that carry traffic in both directions. The design creates a straightforward connection spanning the waterway to link districts on either side of the river.
The original bridge was built in 1938 but remained closed until 1947 while road connections to the city were completed. The structure was later modernized and expanded to handle growing traffic demands as the city expanded.
The bridge represents the rapid urban development of São Paulo during the 1970s, when numerous infrastructure projects transformed the cityscape.
The bridge is straightforward to cross by vehicle and clearly connects Avenida Jaguaré with Avenida Queiroz Filho. The crossing is direct and motorists are quickly guided into the neighboring districts.
In 2018 a section sank two meters and required major repairs using modern reinforcement methods and specialized techniques. The restoration highlighted the need for ongoing monitoring and upkeep to maintain safe passage across.
