Maraú, Coastal municipality in Bahia, Brazil.

Located on a peninsula between the ocean and Camamu Bay, Maraú extends across 774 square kilometers of diverse landscapes with beaches and mangroves.

Italian Capuchin friars discovered the area in 1705, naming it São Sebastião de Mayrahú after finding an indigenous village called Mayra.

The municipality maintains strong connections to its maritime heritage through local fishing practices and traditional boat crafting in coastal communities.

Transportation access includes Barra Grande Airport and water routes through Camamu Bay, with regular boat services connecting different parts of the peninsula.

The municipality contains natural pools at Taipus de Fora beach that form during low tide, revealing extensive coral formations beneath the water surface.
