Maraú

Maraú is a municipality on a peninsula between the ocean and Camamu Bay in Bahia, with landscapes featuring beaches, mangrove forests, and varied terrain. The land shows coastal formations, sheltered coves, and natural habitats spread across its geography.

Italian Capuchin friars arrived in 1705 and named the place after an indigenous village they encountered. This encounter with local inhabitants influenced the early development of settlements in the region.

The community's way of life revolves around fishing and boat building, with residents practicing skills that have been passed down through families for generations. These traditions shape daily routines in coastal villages and show a deep connection to the water.

At low tide, certain beaches form shallow pools that expose coral formations, creating temporary swimming and snorkeling spots that appear and disappear each day. These tidal features change constantly, making each beach visit different.
