Protectorate of the Congo Portuguese, Protectorate under the administration of Portugal between 1885 and 1917
The Protectorate of the Congo Portuguese was a colonial administrative territory in what is now Cabinda region of Angola. This territory stretched along the coast between the Congo River and the Atlantic Ocean and bordered French and Belgian possessions.
Portugal established the protectorate in 1885 following the Berlin Conference that divided African territories among European powers. The administration ended in 1975 when Angola became independent after the collapse of the Portuguese colonial empire.
