Old Jarrah Tree, Heritage tree in Armadale, Australia

The Old Jarrah Tree is a Eucalyptus marginata specimen located at the corner of Third Road and Church Avenue. Its canopy has been reduced to roughly one quarter of its original size, and the trunk shows the effects of age and environmental stress, yet it remains standing as a visible remnant of the region's forest heritage.

Dating between 400 and 800 years old, this tree survived the extensive logging operations of the 1800s that removed most large specimens from the Perth region. Its survival through this period of industrial clearing makes it an exceptionally rare example of the original forest that once covered the area.

The name Jarrah refers to the local eucalyptus species native to this region, and the tree stands as a living connection to the natural world that once dominated the landscape. Today, visitors encounter a symbol of local environmental awareness and community effort to preserve what remains of the original forest.

The location at a road corner makes it straightforward to find and visit, with parking available nearby. Since this is an open outdoor site, visitors can view the tree at their own pace without requiring advance notice or formal entry procedures.

This tree received formal protection status following more than 1,000 public submissions requesting its preservation, making the case for conservation unusually strong. The level of community support for protecting this single specimen reflects how deeply local residents valued what it represents.
