Takarunga / Mount Victoria, Volcanic peak in Devonport, New Zealand
Mount Victoria rises 66 meters above Auckland's North Shore, forming a horseshoe-shaped crater with lava flows extending toward the Waitemata Valley.
French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville climbed the mountain in 1827, later naming it Mount Victoria in honor of the British monarch.
The mountain holds deep significance for Tamaki Maori people, who established a fortified pa settlement on its slopes with earthworks visible today.
Visitors can reach the summit through a 2.7-kilometer walking path starting from King Edward Parade through Church Street and Kerr Street.
Red mushroom-shaped structures at the summit function as vents for an underground water pumping station that dates back to 1894.
