Roma Street Parkland

Roma Street Parkland is a 16-hectare public garden in central Brisbane featuring diverse planted gardens, walking paths, and recreational spaces. The site combines manicured garden areas with natural forest sections, offering varied experiences throughout the grounds.

The land served as a railway goods yard before being redeveloped into a public park in 2001. This transformation followed a decision to repurpose the industrial site for community use.

Indigenous peoples gathered here for meetings and ceremonies across thousands of years, leaving a deep spiritual connection to the land. This ancient relationship shapes how visitors understand the place today.

Most areas remain open 24 hours daily, though specific garden zones have restricted hours from sunrise to sunset. Plan visits during daylight when all sections are accessible and conditions are best for walking.

The park contains the largest subtropical garden system built within any city center in the world. This remarkable botanical collection sets it apart as a truly exceptional urban gardening achievement.
