Big Pineapple, Agricultural tourist attraction in Woombye, Australia.
Big Pineapple is a 16-meter-tall fiberglass and steel structure in Woombye, Queensland, featuring two observation levels and interior exhibits. The surrounding property covers working pineapple plantations, a small zoo, train routes, and adventure facilities designed for visitors of all ages.
The attraction opened in 1971 as part of Sunshine Plantation and became Australia's most visited tourist destination during the 1970s and 1980s. After changing ownership several times and facing decline, the site was later revitalized and gained Queensland Heritage status in 2009.
The site reflects Queensland's pineapple industry heritage and its role in shaping the Sunshine Coast identity. School groups often visit to learn about tropical agriculture, while families treat the plantation as a multigenerational outing that connects farming history with modern recreation.
The site opens daily from 9 AM to 4 PM, allowing enough time to explore the plantation, zoo, and adventure areas. Comfortable shoes help with walking the pathways, and sun protection is advisable in warm weather since much of the experience takes place outdoors.
The venue hosts the annual Big Pineapple Music Festival, which Qantas Airways ranks among Australia's top ten regional music events. The interior of the giant fruit was originally designed as a multistory information center where visitors could understand pineapple cultivation from the inside out.
