Grand Park, Urban park in Downtown Los Angeles, United States
Grand Park is a public open space that extends several blocks between the Music Center and City Hall. The strip includes lawns, fountains, paved walkways, and seating steps that slope gently between the high-rises in central Los Angeles.
The space was laid out in the 1960s as a formal plaza but remained little used for decades. A redesign began in 2010 and transformed the area into a more accessible and welcoming place for the public.
The name comes from Grand Avenue, which runs along its western edge and marks one of the city's oldest main routes. People gather here for lunch on the lawn or use the terraces for relaxation between the government buildings.
The entrance sits directly beside several light rail stops, so a visit pairs well with other downtown destinations. The open areas are flat and easy to navigate, including for wheelchairs or strollers.
The plantings change with the season and feature species from Mediterranean climates that thrive with little water. Many visitors notice the large purple blooms of the jacaranda trees in early summer.
