The Fort Moore Pioneer Memorial features a 78-foot by 45-foot terra cotta panel depicting soldiers raising the American flag on July 4, 1847.
The memorial stands on the site of Fort Moore, a military fortification built during the Mexican-American War and named after Captain Benjamin D. Moore.
The monument includes panels showing the development of Los Angeles through agriculture, transportation, and the contributions of Mormon Battalion settlers.
Located at 451 North Hill Street, the memorial includes an 80-foot waterfall that operates daily following its restoration in December 2018.
The structure contains a time capsule from 1958 within its flagpole, preserving historical documents and photographs from that period.
