A Bug's Land, Children's entertainment area at Disney California Adventure, US
This themed area in Disney California Adventure Park gathered five rides for children and recreated settings at insect scale. The design included enlarged everyday objects such as ice cream sticks, leaves and pebbles that gave the impression of moving through a backyard from an ant's point of view.
The area opened in 2002 as Flik's Fun Fair and expanded the offer for young visitors at a time when the park was redefining its audiences. The complex closed in 2018 to make room for a new themed land based on Marvel comics.
The rides adopted characters from the Pixar film and brought the story into three-dimensional play spaces. Children met the characters in an environment that looked as if they had been shrunk to insect size themselves.
The rides were aimed at families with smaller children and offered gentle movements without great heights or high speeds. Water play areas complemented the attractions and provided welcome refreshment on warm days.
Oversized boxes of animal crackers and crumpled cardboard served as queue areas and decoration. These details reinforced the feeling of wandering through a garden that a child had accidentally forgotten to tidy up.
