Felipe Ángeles International Airport, International airport in Tecámac, Mexico
Felipe Ángeles International Airport is a commercial airport in Tecámac, State of Mexico, that combines civilian and military flight operations. The facility includes three parallel runways that enable simultaneous takeoffs and landings and expand capacity.
The site evolved from Santa Lucía Air Force Base, which served exclusively military purposes for decades. Following a public consultation in 2018, the location was chosen for expansion into a commercial airport to ease air traffic in the capital region.
The terminal houses exhibition spaces displaying fossils, aviation artifacts, and historic railway cars from different periods. Visitors can walk through these collections during waiting times and gain insight into the region's development.
Several transport options connect the airport to Mexico City and surrounding areas, including bus services and taxis for different needs. The terminals offer modern check-in counters and waiting areas designed to handle millions of passengers each year.
During construction, workers uncovered remains of mammoths and other prehistoric animals in the soil. These discoveries led to scientific studies and the creation of areas where visitors can learn more about the region's ancient past.
