Mexican Air Force Museum, Aviation museum in Santa Lucía, Mexico
This aviation museum displays around 46 aircraft from the Mexican air force, including fighter jets, helicopters, and vintage aircraft from different eras. The collection spans twelve permanent exhibition spaces and four rotating display areas.
The institution started in 1933 in Mexico City as a way to preserve Mexican aviation history. It moved to Santa Lucia Air Base in 2022 to protect the collection better and make it open to the public.
The name honors Mexico's air force and its role in the nation's past. Walking through, you encounter aircraft that show how Mexican aviation grew over time and reflect the country's technological advancement.
The museum is located on the Santa Lucia air base grounds and opens Tuesday through Sunday. Entry is free and guided tours are offered on site.
Among the aircraft on display is the first Mexican presidential jet nicknamed El Mexicano, along with a P-47 Thunderbolt fighter plane. This fighter flew during World War II as part of Mexico's Squadron 201.
