William P. Hobby Airport is a commercial airport in southeast Houston, serving mostly domestic flights along with some international routes to Mexico and Central America. The facility has one main terminal with five concourses, marked by wide halls and modern waiting areas.
The airport opened in 1927 on private land first called W.T. Carter Field, later renamed after Texas governor William P. Hobby. The City of Houston acquired the site ten years later and developed it into a commercial aviation hub.
The airport displays numerous sculptures and photographs throughout its terminals, representing the artistic heritage and modern identity of Houston and Texas.
The airport sits roughly 7 miles (11 kilometers) from the city center and connects directly to major highways, making for quick commute times. Travelers find car rental counters, taxi stands, and pickup zones just outside the exits.
