Moody Towers, Student residence towers at University of Houston, Texas
Moody Towers is a student housing complex at the University of Houston featuring two tall residence buildings with clean, modern lines that extend upward for multiple stories. The complex accommodates around 1,100 students and includes a large dining facility at ground level that serves the campus community.
The towers opened in 1970 and were named after William Lewis Moody Jr. and Libbie Shearn Moody of Galveston, major benefactors to the university. Their construction marked an important expansion of campus housing during that decade.
The residence complex serves as a social hub where students gather daily, particularly in the main dining hall where people from different academic programs interact. These shared spaces have become part of student life and memory at the university.
The towers are located on Wheeler Street within the Houston campus and are easily accessible when exploring this area. Keep in mind this is an active residence community, so access to some areas may be limited to residents and their guests.
The towers exemplify the modernist design philosophy that dominated institutional architecture in the United States during the 1970s. Their streamlined form reflects how campus housing was designed to be both practical and affordable during that post-war building era.
