The hall opened on October 31, 1950, with a dedication ceremony that included a performance by the Houston Symphony Orchestra under conductor Efrem Kurtz.

The venue has hosted performances by musicians like Depeche Mode, The Smiths, and Tori Amos, along with lectures by Nobel laureates and notable public figures.

The box office operates Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and opens four hours before scheduled events at 4300 University Drive.

The facility occupies the eastern section of the E. Cullen Building, named after Ezekiel W. Cullen, a former congressman for the Republic of Texas.
