Blaffer Art Museum, Contemporary art museum at University of Houston, United States.
The Blaffer Art Museum is a contemporary art museum within a modernized Fine Arts Building at the University of Houston. Its galleries feature rotating exhibitions dedicated to current and emerging artistic practices.
The museum began in 1973 as the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Gallery, named for a major donor whose art collection formed its foundation. Subsequent expansion and renovation enabled the institution to grow its exhibition program.
The museum presents six to eight exhibitions yearly, mixing major traveling shows with work by emerging artists and partnerships involving local art communities. Visitors can see how contemporary art circulates through and connects with the Houston region.
The museum sits on Elgin Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with free admission. Complimentary parking is available for visitors.
The institution runs an apprenticeship program for high school students who create work during the school year through guided artistic practice. Their finished pieces are displayed in exhibitions within the museum.
