Smither Park, Folk art mosaic park in East End, Houston, United States.
Smither Park is a half-acre outdoor space in the East End featuring a 400-foot memory wall composed of mosaic panels created by different local artists. The site also includes various structures such as a fish-shaped amphitheater, a tree-covered pavilion, and mosaic-decorated play equipment.
The park was established in 2014 as a memorial project created by Dan Phillips and Stephanie Smither. Since its founding, the site has attracted hundreds of local artists who have continuously added their mosaic works to the space.
Local artists have transformed everyday discarded items into colorful mosaic installations that cover the outdoor walls and structures. This practice of creating art from recycled materials reflects the community's resourcefulness and creative spirit.
The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset with free admission for all visitors. The flat terrain and straightforward layout make it easy to explore at your own pace without concerns about access or navigation.
The space features a dragon-themed swing set covered in detailed mosaic patterns, transforming a simple play structure into a work of art that serves both functional and decorative purposes. This integration of everyday objects with artistic design shows how the site blurs the line between recreation and creativity.
