Littlefield Fountain

Littlefield Fountain is a war memorial at the University of Texas featuring a three-tiered granite basin with bronze sculptures. The design includes representations of a ship, an eagle, and military figures positioned amid water jets throughout the structure.

The memorial was designed in 1919 by Italian sculptor Pompeo Coppini following a substantial donation from George Littlefield. It was created to honor University of Texas students and alumni who died during World War I.

The memorial carries the name of George Littlefield, a prominent supporter whose generosity shaped how the university honors its fallen. The fountain remains a gathering place where students pause and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The memorial is located at the entrance of the South Mall and is freely accessible during daylight hours. It serves as an important landmark on campus and is frequently visited by students and tourists.

The sculptures feature three hippocamps partially submerged in the water, with two carrying mermen figures. These mythological sea creatures create an unexpected element within this military memorial.
