Cambridge Tower, Historic residential tower in Austin, United States
Cambridge Tower is a 15-story residential building on Lavaca Street designed with geometric forms and balconies that feature decorative breeze blocks. The structure includes ornamental grid elements and shading columns that define its appearance.
The building was completed in 1965 and later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. The listing recognized its architectural value as a significant residential example from that period.
The tower displays symmetrical forms that reflected how people wanted to live in the mid-20th century. Its geometric designs and decorative screens show how architects tried to combine modern living with formal design principles.
The building sits in a central location and is easy to reach from nearby streets. Note that this is a private residential building and interior spaces are not open to the public, but the exterior can be viewed from the sidewalk.
The top floor features arches inspired by Camelot style that stand out from the surrounding design. An often-overlooked feature is the stylish porte-cochère at street level, designed to shelter residents as they arrive.
