George Washington, Public art on Texas State Capitol grounds in Austin, United States
The bronze statue stands 8 feet tall on a granite pedestal, depicting George Washington in military attire with his right hand extended forward.
The sculpture was created in 1955 by Italian artist Pompeo Coppini and represents Washington's role as commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution.
This representation of Washington serves as a central educational point for school groups learning about the founding principles of the United States.
The statue is accessible daily from sunrise to sunset through the north entrance of the Capitol grounds at Congress Avenue and 11th Street.
The statue contains metal from the original USS Constitution warship, incorporating physical elements from early American naval history into its construction.
