Kendall, Residential district in Miami-Dade County, United States
Kendall is a residential area southwest of downtown Miami in Miami-Dade County. The district contains multiple neighborhoods, shopping centers, and parks distributed across a large area.
The Florida Land and Mortgage Company acquired the land in 1883 and named it after company director Henry John Broughton Kendall. Significant development began in the 1950s and transformed it into a major residential region.
The population of 80,241 residents reflects the multicultural character of South Florida through numerous restaurants, shops, and community gathering spaces.
The area is served by two Metrorail stations, Dadeland North and Dadeland South, connecting to the Miami metropolitan area. Additional Metrobus routes provide service for local transportation throughout the district.
Hurricane Andrew devastated the area in 1992 and caused severe structural damage throughout the district. The subsequent rebuilding effort fundamentally shaped the current appearance and infrastructure.
