Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Mediterranean Revival estate in Coconut Grove, Miami, United States

The 70-room mansion features European antiques, Renaissance furniture, and formal gardens with stone sculptures extending to Biscayne Bay.

James Deering commissioned the estate in 1914, employing 1000 workers to construct this winter residence completed in 1922.

The estate incorporates Italian Renaissance, Baroque, and Mediterranean Revival designs, reflecting European architectural influences of the early 20th century.

Visitors can explore the museum Wednesday through Monday from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with guided tours available throughout the day.

Miami attractions: beaches, Art Deco district, Everglades National Park

Miami, a major city on Florida's southeastern coast, combines Caribbean influences with American culture. The city extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Everglades and includes diverse neighborhoods with distinct identities. Miami Beach, South Beach, and the Art Deco Historic District shape the coastal landscape, while Little Havana reflects the city's Cuban heritage. Cultural offerings range from the Pérez Art Museum Miami to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and the Wolfsonian-FIU. Wynwood Walls has become a center for street art. Natural areas like Everglades National Park, Oleta River State Park, and Crandon Park provide access to subtropical ecosystems. Key Biscayne, Coral Gables with Venetian Pool, and Coconut Grove complement the metropolitan area. Additional facilities include Miami Seaquarium, Zoo Miami, Jungle Island, and Miami Children's Museum. Historic sites such as Freedom Tower, Barnacle Historic State Park, and Ancient Spanish Monastery document different eras. Bayside Marketplace serves as a shopping and entertainment center, while Coral Castle and Stiltsville represent architectural curiosities.

Historic homes in North America: architecture of major families, residences from the 19th and 20th centuries

These North American houses tell the story of big wealth built during the industrial age. Around the late 1800s and early 1900s, families like the Vanderbilts and the Hearsts built homes that mix European styles with new ideas in building. The Breakers in Newport draws from Italian Renaissance ideas with its 70 rooms. The Hearst Castle in California has art and old objects from Europe. Fallingwater, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935, is built over a waterfall in Pennsylvania, showing modern style. Other places like Pittock Manor in Portland or Vizcaya in Miami have decorated rooms and gardens. In Canada, Château Ramezay in Montreal dates back to the 1700s and keeps many items from New France. Château Craigdarroch in Victoria shows the love for woodwork and stained glass from Victorian times. These sites give a look into a world where buildings, gardens, and art collections were part of one whole. They reflect a time when people built to impress and last long.
