Columbus Lighthouse, Monument and mausoleum in Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic
The Columbus Lighthouse spans 680 feet in length and 195 feet in width, constructed with reinforced concrete in a cross-shaped configuration.
The structure opened in 1992 to commemorate 500 years since Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, following plans from a 1931 international design competition.
The monument contains exhibitions from multiple American nations, including artifacts, jewelry, and historical items representing their connection to Columbus's expeditions.
Visitors can observe the claimed remains of Christopher Columbus in a glass-enclosed crypt, with special viewings organized during Columbus Day celebrations.
The monument projects 157 light beams into the sky, creating a cross-shaped illumination pattern that becomes visible from outer space.
