Palmetto Historic District

Palmetto Historic District is a neighborhood containing residential and commercial buildings dating from the late 1800s through early 1900s. The structures display a range of architectural styles that reflect the building practices of that era.

A post office established in 1880 marked when Palmetto began developing as an organized community. This institution brought administrative structures that encouraged the growth of homes and businesses over the following decades.

The district reveals how a small community developed its commercial and public spaces along a main corridor. People today use these buildings and streets to connect with their local roots and understand how their town took shape.

The district is best explored on foot, with informational plaques on many buildings explaining their architectural and historical features. Most buildings are viewable from the street, and there is plenty of space for walking through the area.

The Heritage Station Post Office from 1880 operates one day each year during Heritage Day, giving visitors a chance to mail letters with a special cancellation stamp. This rare opening lets people experience what using an old post office was actually like.
