Pinellas Trail, National Recreation Trail in Pinellas County, United States
Pinellas Trail is a linear multi-use pathway stretching 47 miles from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs, passing through residential neighborhoods, downtown areas, and coastal zones. The route runs along green spaces and urban corridors, offering views of varied landscapes throughout.
The route originated from former railroad tracks used by the Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line, which transported freight and passengers across the region for decades. When these lines merged into the Seaboard Coast Line in 1967, the abandoned tracks eventually became a public recreation pathway.
The pathway connects eight municipalities in Pinellas County, allowing residents to experience different local communities while exercising or traveling between towns.
Emergency assistance markers placed every 200 to 300 feet help first responders quickly locate anyone needing help along the route. The pathway is well-marked throughout, making it easy for visitors to navigate and maintain their bearings while traveling.
Extended elevated sections cross over water and roadways, providing views of Tampa Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, and urban landscapes from above. These raised perspectives allow visitors to experience familiar surroundings from entirely new vantage points.
