Roosevelt Elementary School, listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Roosevelt Elementary School is a school building in Tampa, Florida that opened in 1926 and features Spanish Colonial architecture. The main structure is two stories of brick with decorative arches, expanded over the decades with wings including an auditorium, cafeteria, media center, and classroom additions to serve growing enrollment.
The school was built in 1925 and opened in 1926 to serve the growing South Tampa neighborhood. As the area's population increased, major expansions occurred in the 1940s and 1950s, followed by renovations in 1990 and further additions through the 2000s that brought updated technology and more classrooms.
The school uses navy and khaki colors with the Rough Riders as its mascot. The campus feels welcoming, with spaces for studying, playing, and gathering where students and teachers work together in a friendly environment.
The school is located on South Ferdinand Avenue in Tampa with parking available nearby for visitors. The campus can be explored during regular school hours while remaining mindful that it is an active learning environment for students.
The auditorium was dedicated in 2001 to former student Sam Gibbons, who later became a U.S. Congressman. This honor reflects the lasting connection between the school and its notable graduates who went on to success in their later careers.
