Fort Foster State Historic Site, Military historic site in Pasco County, Florida, US.

Fort Foster is a military outpost with two blockhouses, storage buildings, and defensive fortifications built along the Hillsborough River in central Florida. The structures display typical construction methods of the 19th century, designed to protect the settlement and supplies from armed conflict in the region.

This military post was established in December 1836 by Colonel William S. Foster and built on the site of the previously destroyed Fort Alabama. It served as a defensive position during the Second Seminole War when tensions in the region ran high.

The fort represents a significant period of military operations during the Second Seminole War, with architectural elements reflecting 19th-century defensive construction methods.

The site is accessible through Hillsborough River State Park, where visitors can explore the historic structures and grounds. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the path to the fort passes through natural woodland terrain and can be uneven.

The post was equipped with military artillery including a six-pounder cannon and a twelve-pound howitzer for defense. This weaponry gave the fort significant defensive firepower to protect against larger-scale attacks in the surrounding area.
