Pasco County, Administrative county in Tampa Bay Region, United States.
Pasco County is a coastal administrative division on Florida's west coast within the Tampa Bay region, stretching from the Gulf of Mexico inland through suburban and rural areas. The territory includes several cities and towns, with Dade City serving as the county seat, New Port Richey along the waterfront, and growing suburban communities like Wesley Chapel and Land O'Lakes in the southern portion.
The area was established as a separate county in 1887 from the southern section of Hernando County and named after Samuel Pasco, a Florida senator. Dade City became the county seat through a public vote in 1889 and developed into the administrative center for the region.
The county maintains multiple libraries through the Pasco County Library Cooperative, providing educational resources and community programs to over 561,000 residents.
Government centers in Dade City, Land O'Lakes, New Port Richey and Wesley Chapel provide motor vehicle services without requiring appointments. The western coastal areas offer access to parks and nature preserves, while the central and eastern sections show more rural landscapes.
Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park along the coast preserves several salt water springs and underwater caves that flow directly into the ocean. These springs create habitats for marine life and can be observed from the shoreline during low tide.
