Rosewood, Ghost town in Levy County, Florida.
Rosewood is an abandoned settlement in Levy County, Florida, where only scattered structures remain from its past. Visitors can see remnants of timber processing buildings, two church foundations, and a weathered general store that once served residents.
The settlement was founded in the late 1880s and prospered through timber processing and farming. In January 1923, the community was destroyed by forced evacuation, scattering residents and leading to the town's permanent abandonment.
The settlement supported a population of 355 people by 1915, featuring three churches, a school, and a Masonic Hall for community gatherings.
The site is located roughly one mile northeast of Sumner along State Road 24 and is accessible to visitors. The area works well for a short walk to explore the ruins and scattered foundations.
The remains were deliberately preserved as a memorial rather than demolished or developed. This makes the site unusual because the physical absence itself tells the story of what happened.
