Haulover Park, Public park with beach access in Bal Harbour, US
Haulover Park lies along a coastal strip between Bal Harbour and Sunny Isles Beach in Miami-Dade County, covering more than 70 hectares with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. The grounds include multiple beach sections, a marina, tennis courts, a golf course, and wide lawns with picnic areas beneath palms and native trees.
The county government purchased the coastal property in 1940 and began development the following year, completing the site in 1948. For decades the southern beach section remained reserved for conventional bathers until 1991, when the northern portion was designated for naturist use.
The area takes its name from a shallow channel where fishermen used to haul their boats overland between the Atlantic and Biscayne Bay. The marina today serves local anglers and charter captains who dock their vessels after morning runs and gather on weekends to share their catches.
The grounds open at sunrise and close at sunset, with most facilities and amenities accessible throughout the day. Parking areas are located at several entrances along Collins Avenue, and the different beach sections are within walking distance from the parking zones.
The northern beach section draws over one million visitors annually who use the official clothing-optional area, one of the few of its kind on the East Coast of the United States. Between the two beach sections runs a natural dune strip that acts as a privacy barrier while also protecting nesting sites for sea turtles.
