Mounts Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in West Palm Beach, Florida

Mounts Botanical Garden is a botanical garden in West Palm Beach, Florida, organized into more than 25 themed sections that display tropical and subtropical plants from around the world. The grounds cover native Florida species alongside rare exotic ones, each group placed in a dedicated garden area.

Plantings began after the Mounts Building opened in 1954, when extension director Marvin Mounts planted tropical fruit trees on three adjacent acres. In 1975 Clayton Hutcheson proposed a Horticultural Learning Center there, created in 1983; the garden took its present public-private form in 1985, when ten acres were added. In 1986 the Friends voted to rename it Mounts Botanical Garden.

The Windows on the Floating World section takes visitors along raised boardwalks through a wetland, where native water plants and animals can be seen up close. The walkway lets people move through the habitat without disturbing what lives there.

Entry is free, and the garden is open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. It sits at 559 North Military Trail in West Palm Beach, at an elevation of about 7.6 m, with roughly 1,557 mm of rain a year.

The Garden of Tranquility opened in spring 2018, built from stone, bamboo and living plants in an Asian-inspired style. Its creators state it is not meant to be authentic or strictly Japanese, so it borrows forms rather than reproducing a real tradition. Look for the balance of stone and bamboo rather than a replica of a Japanese garden.
