El Cid Historic District encompasses 281 buildings across 500 acres between Flamingo Drive, South Flagler Drive, Dyer Road, and South Dixie Highway.
Benjamin Lainhart established the first permanent residence on Lake Worth's western shore in 1875, marking the beginning of the El Cid neighborhood development.
The district features Mediterranean Revival and Mission style residences constructed during the 1920s Florida land development period, named after Spanish hero Rodrigo Diaz.
The neighborhood association maintains the district's historic character through regular community meetings, preservation programs, and area beautification initiatives.
Jay Phipps, a Pittsburgh socialite, directed the district's development between 1923 and 1926, creating an enclave of substantial Mediterranean-influenced homes.
