Lake Kissimmee State Park

Lake Kissimmee State Park is a protected area in central Florida that combines lakes, wetlands, forests, and prairie habitats into one landscape. The park encompasses Kissimmee Lake along with two smaller bodies of water set within oak and pine woodlands.

The land has supported human and animal life for generations, revealing deep connections between nature and how people used it. A recreated cattle camp shows how ranchers lived and worked here from the late 1800s onward.

The area carries the legacy of local ranchers called Cow Hunters, who developed unique methods for managing cattle across the rugged landscape. Visitors can see how this heritage shaped the character of central Florida's wilderness today.

The park offers multiple trails for walking through forests and grassland, plus equestrian paths for horseback visitors. Camping accommodations with basic facilities are available within the park, making it suitable for overnight stays and multi-day explorations.

The park shelters numerous protected animal species, including birds of prey and wading birds that offer rare viewing moments for visitors. Spotting bald eagles, snail kites, and sandhill cranes in one location makes it valuable for wildlife watchers.
