Cocoa Beach, Beach city in Brevard County, Florida, US.
Cocoa Beach is a coastal municipality in Brevard County Florida that stretches along the Atlantic coast between Jacksonville and Miami. Multiple public access points lead to white sand beaches that run the entire length of the community.
The town incorporated formally in 1925 when fishermen and early settlers established homes along the shore. During the 1960s space race the population expanded rapidly because of proximity to Kennedy Space Center and related aerospace employment.
Every December hundreds of surfers dress up in Santa Claus costumes for the annual Surfing Santas celebration that started as a family tradition. Thousands of spectators line the shore watching costumed riders paddle through the waves while raising money for local charities.
The beaches remain open year round with free parking available at several locations along the coastal strip. Sunscreen is recommended especially during summer months when the sun intensity peaks midday.
A wooden pier built in 1962 extends 800 feet (240 meters) into the Atlantic Ocean from the main beach area. Anglers and visitors use the platform daily while restaurants along the structure serve freshly caught seafood overlooking the waves.
