Winter Garden, Historical city in Orange County, Florida
Winter Garden is a city in Orange County, Florida that stretches from low shores along Lake Apopka to gentle hills in the southwest. The terrain ranges from 64 feet (20 meters) in the flatter areas to 222 feet (68 meters) at the highest point near the Lake County border.
The settlement was founded in 1908 as a farming center where citrus groves supplied produce shipped by rail. Over the decades, the economy shifted from agriculture to commerce and residential development.
The name comes from the early citrus groves that once covered the area, reflecting the mild winters that drew farmers to settle here. Today, visitors can walk through downtown streets lined with restored brick buildings that house local shops and cafes.
The West Orange Trail runs through the area and offers 22 miles (35 kilometers) of paved paths for cycling and walking. The route is wide and well lit, making it safe to use even after sunset.
The local farmers market takes place every Saturday and features fresh vegetables and handmade goods from nearby producers. Many stalls also sell homemade jams, honey, and baked items made in small family operations.
