Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Dark ride in Walt Disney Studios Park, France
Remy's Ratatouille Adventure is a trackless dark ride at Walt Disney Studios Park in France where guests travel in small vehicles through enlarged kitchen scenes. The installation combines room-sized projections with built scenery that recreates scenes from the animated film.
The attraction opened on July 10, 2014, and expanded the park's existing offerings with a new form of interactive storytelling. It marked the beginning of a phase when touchless ride systems became more common in theme parks.
The entire ride places visitors in the perspective of a laboratory rat, shrinking them among pots, pans, and cooking utensils that appear enormous from this viewpoint. The décor echoes classic Parisian bistro kitchens with copper cookware and aged tile walls that recreate the film's ambiance.
Visitors receive 3D glasses at entry that must be worn throughout the ride to perceive the projected elements. The vehicles move freely through several rooms, so it helps to position yourself toward the center of the car.
A motion tracking system in the floor controls each vehicle individually, so no two cars ever take exactly the same route through the kitchen. This technology allows the vehicles to dodge obstacles and change direction suddenly, making each ride different.
