Fort Moore Main Post Cemetery is a military burial ground of 8.38 acres at Fort Benning in Georgia, established in 1922. More than 10,000 soldiers and their dependents have been interred there, among them three Medal of Honor recipients and twenty general officers as of July 2022.
The cemetery was established in 1922 and has served as a burial ground for military personnel ever since. During World War II, German and Italian prisoners of war who died in nearby detention camps were also buried here.
The cemetery holds forty-four German and seven Italian prisoners of war who died in nearby detention camps during World War II, buried alongside four allied Chinese pilots. The graves of LTG Harold G. Moore Jr. and his wife Julia Compton Moore lie here, as do those of CSM Basil L. Plumley, both linked to the 1965 Battle of Ia Drang.
The cemetery is accessible to visitors during daytime hours, though access to the military installation may require prior arrangement. Plan to contact the facility in advance to confirm visiting procedures.
