Yuchi Town Site

Yuchi Town Site is an archaeological location near Fort Moore that covers a broad expanse containing remains of multiple indigenous settlements. The site sits within the Chattahoochee River valley and reveals layers of occupation spanning different periods.

Spanish missionaries and soldiers established a mission and garrison at the village of Sabacola in the 1600s. Colonial activities transformed the settlement landscape before indigenous groups eventually faced displacement.

The site contains material traces of Apalachicola and Yuchi communities, including pottery and trade beads that reveal connections to distant regions. These objects show how people lived together and moved goods along river networks.

Visitors approach the site through Fort Moore in Russell County, located several miles away. Plan your visit carefully since the location is remote and conditions are best during dry weather.
